I researched job placement programs at universities for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At Syracuse University, placing students with IDD after they’ve graduated has been difficult. This finding is consistent with national employment rates for people with disabilities. Despite employment incentives and training programs, the employment rates for people with and without disabilities are drastically different.
I developed an Employment Workshop for students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at Syracuse University in the InclusiveU program. The students created LinkedIn profiles, took proffesional headshots, built resumes, and recorded video cover letters.
After graduating from Syracuse, I worked in a high school job training program for students with disabilities and connected with the E4Texas program at University of Texas at Austin.
I presented the InclusiveU Employment Workshop to professors, students and members of the community.
I recorded testimonial interviews with local employers who employ students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I shot and edited a four-minute video to encourage other employers to consider hiring people with IDD.
I recoreded testemonial interviews with students and parents of students in the E4Texas program at the Universtiy of Texas at Austin. The E4Texas program immerses students with and without disabilities into college life and prepares them for professional careers.
